Over the years, we’ve seen a lot of proof that cannabis flourishes in Washington County.
Police officers have harvested the marijuana strain of cannabis plants from hiding spots in the county’s fields, piling them up in great green heaps and setting them on fire.
The hemp strain of cannabis will, we hope, be put to a much better use. Hemp has great potential as a cash crop and could be more lucrative than tourism ever will be in Washington County. The county’s little villages and sprawling farms are not conducive to tourism in the way the lakeside motels and attractions of Lake George are.
Washington County is a productive place — it’s a place where things get made — and hemp can be part of that tradition.
